The Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2010 (HR 4899) supports Haiti's Recovery
The Obama Administration is making good on its pledge to help Haiti rebuild. Approximately 2.8 billion dollars has been earmarked to help support Haiti's recovery in HR 4899, the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2010. The funds have been allocated for various purposes including Food for Peace, TPS, Peacekeeping, Reconstruction, Debt Relief, etc. Of the 770 million dollars allocated for reconstruction, 120 million will be transferred to the Multi Donor Trust Fund for Haiti's Reconstruction.
The U.S. pledged 1.1 billion dollars to help Haiti recover at a March 31 Donor's Conference held at the United Nations. So far, very few of the countries which pledged support at that conference have been able to keep their pledges. By contributing 120 million to the Multi Donor Trust Fund, the United States has paid for its seat on the Interim Haiti Reconstruction Commission. In addition, through HR 4899, it has set aside the money to fulfill the balance of its pledge.
The short list of countries that have kept their commitment to Haiti thus far includes: Brazil, Estonia, Australia, and Norway.
