C.R.I.M.E. Plays Hoax to Force French to Repay Haiti 21 Billion

A group of activists who call themselves The Committee for the Reimbursement of the Indemnity Money Extorted from Haiti ( C.R.I.M.E.) played a hoax on the French government by pretending that the French government had finally agreed to do the right thing and pay Haiti back the 90 million in gold franks that France extorted from Haiti between 1825 and 1947. The current value of the money extorted is well over 21 billion dollars.

The hoax was so effective, that the French government had to deny that it had agreed to make such payments. The government announced that it would not be returning any money to Haiti, and was considering legal action against the C.R.I.M.E. activists.

C.R.I.M.E.  released this statement to explain their actions:

The announcement was a hoax, but the far bigger hoax is how little France,
as well as the U.S. and Canada, have offered Haiti in earthquake relief,
relative to what Haitians are owed in reparations."
